Why the Prophetic Movement is Headed for Trouble

In the euphoria of the prophetic movement, the power of the Word has been diminished. I've seen the worst of it since we began training the prophets in 1999. We are at risk where prophetic revelation supersedes the Word of God.

Unless we shift gears, we face the danger of aligning with a heretical cult called Montanism. Their teachings were founded on some truth.

They believed that prophecy had not passed on with the apostles. They believed that the gifts were for everyone.

To fight for their faith, they overcompensated until they held to the following belief:"Montanism was a prophetic movement originating c. 170 in Phrygia, where a Christian named Montanus began to utter prophecies in a state of convulsive frenzy. He and his supporters claimed that his ecstatic condition was a sign that he was totally possessed by the Holy Spirit, who was inaugurating a new dispensation of divine *revelation.They demanded unhesitating recognition for the new prophecy. Several local church councils did condemn the Montanist prophecies, but were powerless to prevent the Montanist movement running its course and creating a split within the churches." - New Dictionary of Theology: Historical and Systematic by Keith, G. A Surefire Way to Keep Prophetic Revelation on Track

The bottom line? We need the stability of the Word and the power of the Spirit to keep us on track. When we fail to feed the Word into our spirits, we lack a compass to keep us on track. Feeding on the Word, as a prophet, increases your capacity for prophecy!

Think about that! In my book 8 Ways to Hear the Voice of God, I teach you how to combine both Word and Spirit into the perfect combo. We need balance here. Teachers make the mistake of leaning solely on Scripture without spiritual insight. These teachers run the risk of leading God's people astray with intellect, lacking the power. How about we bring balance? First to our lives. Then to our families, churches and ministries.

1. How many hours a week do you spend in study of the Word? 

2. How many hours a week do you spend in praise, worship and speaking in tongues? The perfect mix is 50/50

4. Teachers, add water to your cement! Upgrade the time you spend speaking in tongues and in worship!

APOSTOLIC INSIGHT

No one likes to correct a prophet! As an apostle, though, you can't afford imbalance. So what's it to be? Will you correct the wrong you see in your ministry or take the easy way out? Prophets have been snubbed and rejected for years. They will appreciate your willingness to point out something amiss, combined with a willingness to instruct them in love. You answer to the Father for the condition of your ministry. 

A TAKEAWAY FOR THE PROPHETS

If ever you get to the place of perfection, you've failed. Our boast isn't that we're infallible. It's that Jesus chose us. Jesus anoints us by grace. Humility is a powerful force! Hunger for correction! Chase after testing! With this attitude, you'll never plateau. Correcting a prophet isn't a lot of fun (You know you got some fire!) So make it easier for your pastor and apostle. Take their objections to heart and allow them to stretch you!
